Scrum in real live looks more than software developers doing all the job of software analysts and project managers with no change in the salary scale. I guess it is great from the point of view of a project manager because it is less work, and from the point of view of the developer great because he doesn't have to implement crap that is planned by people with no clue regularly managing projects, so from the learning stand point and less frustration it could also be good for developers.

I also had some thoughts on the when a someone should start practicing Scrum couple of months ago. That post can be found at http://blog.hasith.net/2009/12/when-to-scrum.html.

I think you should include another category, "Attackers". Those are difference from "Critics" as they just attack Scrum because they hate it, but they've never used it. The problem with Scrum that anytime a "Scrummer" talks about it s/he is either praising it or on the defensive side. Project Managers hate that. Not to mention that the "True Believers" category trying to show skeptical Project Managers the light in using Scrum is actually doing more harm than good.

Anyway, it seems to me that Kanban is currently gaining steam as a Scrum replacement. There's an increasing number of articles on the subject.

One of the biggest turn offs of Scrum is the total blinkered belief that it is the only way to manage projects and that all the other are completely wrong, a bit like a cult/religion.

If it is such a good project management solution then it would not have take on such a hard sell brainwashing attitude.
